Lakers Fall to SVSU 81-80 Saturday

ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State men's basketball team fell 81-80 against Saginaw Valley State Saturday (Dec. 6) at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. The Lakers drop to 7-1 on the season and 1-1 in the GLIAC, while the Cardinals improve to 6-1 overall and 1-1 in the GLIAC.
 
Charles Turner led GVSU with a career high 21 points on 6-8 shooting from the field and 5-7 shooting from three-point range. Trevor Smith Jr. notched 13 points, four assists, and three steals on 4-8 shooting from the field and 4-4 from the free throw line. Cam Regnerus scored a career high 11 points and grabbed two rebounds. Jalen Charity posted 10 points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals, while Javion Otten added 10 points and three rebounds. 
 
GVSU shot 47% from the field and 50% from three-point range. Saginaw Valley State shot 54% from the field and 52% from three going 13-25 from behind the arc. The Lakers outrebounded the Cardinals 30-28 and 9-6 in offensive reobunds. GVSU outscored SVSU 26-24 in the paint and 13-7 in fast break points. 
 
The Lakers will be back in action on Wednesday, December 17th when they host Malone in the final home game of the 2025 calendar year. Tipoff is set for 6:00 PM at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. The game will be streamed live on FloCollege and can be listened live on Thunder Country 107.3.
