ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State men's basketball fell 57-55 at the buzzer Wednesday (Dec. 17) evening. The Lakers fall to 7-2 on the season, while Malone improves to 8-2.
Ethan Alderink led GVSU with 18 points on 6-14 shooting from the field.
Jalen Charity scored 11 points and brought down five rebounds, while going a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line.
Trevor Smith Jr. notched 10 points and dished out two assists on 4-8 shooting from the field.
Mason Docks added seven points, three rebounds, and three steals.
Shamus Thompson led all players with 11 rebounds with four offensive rebounds.
GVSU shot 38% from the field, while Malone shot 39% from the floor. The Pioneers outrebounded the Lakers 41-32 and 14-9 in offensive rebounds. GVSU forced Malone to commit 13 turnovers, while swiping seven steals.
GVSU will close out the 2025 calendar year on the road when they travel to face Aquinas in Grand Rapids on Sunday, December 21
