#6 Lakers Dominate Roosevelt 7-0 Thursday

ALLENDALE – The No. 6 Grand Valley State women's soccer team extended their winning streak to six games in dominating fashion after defeating Roosevelt 7-0 Thursday (Nov. 6) evening. The seven goals scored is the highest in a game this season and the most in a single game since the 2022 season. GVSU improves to 15-2 on the season and 12-1 in the GLIAC. 
 
The Lakers got off to a fast start and opened the scoring in the fourth minute. Off a corner kick, Sophia Morgan sent in a ball to the middle of the box where Mackenzie Ford was there to leap and head the ball past the goalkeeper for the game's first goal. Just under two minutes later, Vesna Dennison notched her second goal of the season to make it 2-0. Kendall Aikens played a ball that deflected off a Roosevelt defender and Dennison was in great position to kick the ball into the empty net. 
 
GVSU outshot Roosevelt 11-0 in the first half and produced four corner kicks whole holding Roosevelt to zero. In the second half, the Lakers would find the back of the net in the 59th minute to make it 3-0. Off another corner kick, Morgan sent a ball into the middle of the box where Ford was again in great position to head the ball past the goalkeeper for her second of the night and fourth of the season. One minute later, Kendall Aikens notched her third of the season to make it 4-0 off a great pass from the left side by Kacy Lauer
 
GVSU would keep applying pressure and would find the back of the net for a fifth time in the 62nd minute. Off a corner kick, Ford would get a foot on the ball that would go right to Amanda Palmer who initially missed the ball with the left foot but recovered and fired a shot with the right foot that found the bottom left corner of the goal for her second goal of the season. The Lakers would score again just three minutes later in the 64th minute to take a commanding 6-0 lead. Kendall Aikens notched her second of the match and fourth of the season after receiving a pass from Ford and made spin move to create space from the defender and fired a shot up and over the goalkeeper. Elianna Jeruzal would add a seventh goal with just 40 seconds to play in the game for her first collegiate goal off a great pass by Lauer. 
 
GVSU dominated all 90 minutes and outshot Roosevelt 30-2 with 13-1 on frame. The Lakers produced 11 corner kicks and did not allow a corner kick to Roosevelt. Mackenzie Ford had a career high two goals and two assists for six points including the game-winning goal on five shots with three on frame. Vesna Dennison notched a career high five shots with two on frame and one goal. Kacy Lauer extended her point streak to five games after dishing out two assists. Kendall Aikens recorded a career high five points off two goals and one assist with five shots and two on target. Sophia Morgan added two assists and is now tied for the team lead with seven assists on the season. Elianna Jeruzal and Amanda Palmer added a goal on their lone shot on goal in the win. Macie Hunter picked up her GLIAC leading ninth shutout of the season making one save.
 
GVSU will close the regular season on Saturday, November 8th when they host Saginaw Valley State on Alumni Day. First kick is set for 1:00 pm at the GVSU Soccer Field. The game will be streamed live on FloCollege.
