#6 Lakers Close Regular Season with 2-1 Win Over SVSU

ALLENDALE – The No. 6 Grand Valley State women's soccer team concluded the regular season with a 2-1 win over Saginaw Valley State Saturday (Nov. 8) afternoon. The Lakers finish the regular season with a 16-2 overall mark and 12-1 GLIAC record.
 
GVSU got off to a fast start and opened the scoring in the seventh minute. Sarah Fromm notched her team leading eighth goal of the season with the assists from Alli French and Sonya Mehta. Mehta made a pass to French who one touched it for Fromm who kicked it from just outside the box on a shot that hit the top right of the crossbar and in.
 
Four minutes later, Fromm would add to the lead with her second on the game and ninth of the season. Kendall Aikens stole the ball from the Saginaw Valley State defender and made a pass to Fromm in the middle of the box who kicked it past the goalkeeper to increase the lead to two in the 11th minute. Saginaw Valley State would find the back of the net in the 38th minute off a set piece the cut the Laker lead to one.
 
Both teams would be held scoreless in the second half with shots even at seven apiece as the Lakers would hang on for the one-goal win. GVSU outshot Saginaw Valley State 15-10 and 8-5 on goal, while corner kicks were even at five apiece. Macie Hunter made four saves and picked up her 13th win of the season. Fromm scored both goals for the Lakers and recorded her team leading fourth game-winning goal of the season on five shots with three on frame. Amanda Palmer notched three shots with one on target. Five Lakers played in all 90 minutes which is the most in a game this season. 
 
GVSU will begin postseason play on Tuesday, November 11th when they host the eight seeded Roosevelt Lakers at 4:00 PM at the GVSU Soccer Field. The game will be streamed live on FloCollege.
