ALLENDALE, MICH. - The Grand Valley State women's volleyball team began postseason play Wednesday night, hosting Davenport in the GLIAC Tournament quarterfinal round. The Lakers took care of business on home court, sweeping Davenport to advance to the semifinal round.
After a back-and-forth opening set in which GVSU took 26-24, the Lakers dominated the next two games, winning 25-13 and 25-16. The Panthers got out to a 10-4 lead in the first set, but the Lakers responded with a 9-2 run to take their first lead at 13-12. The two teams traded points for the rest of the set, until Grand Valley State scored three of the final four points to take set one. With set two tied at eight, GVSU rattled off a 9-1 run to take control of the game, never looking back, cruising the rest of the way for the 12-point win. Once again, an early tied in the third set, this time at five, the Lakers went on a 10-2 run to take an eight-point lead. Davenport battled back within four, but couldn't get any closer, as the Lakers completed the sweep, securing their third win over the Panthers this season.
Kendall Stover totaled 11 kills and 13 digs, adding two blocks.
Kennedy Arp hit .500, posting 10 kills and five total blocks.
Brianna Stawski had nine kills and six blocks, with
Grace Busold recording 15 digs.
Gabby Orlet dished out 32 assists.

The Lakers will play Ferris State in the GLIAC semifinal round on Saturday. Game time is still to be decided.
