ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Grand Valley State women's volleyball team concluded the regular season this afternoon, defeating Purdue Northwest in straight sets. With the win, GVSU moves to 18-8 overall and 12-4 in GLIAC play. It was also Alumni Day and the 20
th anniversary celebration for the 2005 National Championship team.
Each of the first two sets went the way of GVSU by the score of 25-18. In set three, the two teams played to extra points, but the Lakers pulled out a 29-27 win. Grand Valley took an early set one lead, never letting the Pride get a run going, taking set one. In the second set, GVSU held a 10-9 lead, then got a kill from
Brianna Stawski, which started a 5-2 Laker run, giving GVSU some breathing room in the game. From that run on, the Lakers got control of the game and went up 2-0. PNW raced out to a 9-3 lead in set three, but GVSU responded with an 11-1 run to go up 14-10. The Pride came back to go up 21-20, before a 3-0 Laker run. GVSU eventually got to match point, but PNW staved it off four times, but couldn't do it a fifth time, with
Kendall Stover ending the match with a kill.
Four Lakers had 10 kills apiece.
Kennedy Arp,
Kendall Stover,
Meghan O'Sullivan, and
Brianna Stawski all tied for the team-lead in kills.
Gabby Orlet orchestrated that attack with 45 assists, adding 11 digs and six kills.
Lexi Armstrong had 12 digs and Stover recorded 11.
