ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Grand Valley State women's volleyball team wraps up the regular season this weekend, traveling to Wayne State on Thursday, then hosting Purdue Northwest on Friday.

The Lakers are coming off two sweeps, taking down SVSU and LSSU both in straight sets. With the two wins, GVSU is now 17-7 overall and 11-3 in the GLIAC, tied with Ferris State and Wayne State atop the conference standings. The Lakers remain in contention for a spot in the NCAA Tournament, holding a spot in the first regional rankings last week. GVSU has won four straight games
Back in the opening weekend of October, the Lakers first matched up with Wayne State and PNW. The Warriors defeated the Lakers in five sets in Allendale, then GVSU took down PNW on the road two days later in a sweep.
Kendall Stover and
Kennedy Arp each had 10 kills against the Warriors, and Arp tied her career-high with 12 kills in the sweep of the Pride.
Since the start of October Wayne State is 11-2, improving their record to 19-5 overall and 11-3 in the league. The Warriors were one of the 10 teams included in the first NCAA Midwest Regional release last weekend, meaning they were under consideration for a spot in the tournament. Wayne State is led by senior middle blocker Kayla Giroux, who leads the conference in hitting percentage (.397), kills (350), kills per set (3.89), and points (409.5). Leading the offense is setter Kayla Dulgar, who is atop the GLIAC is both assists (959) and assists per set (10.66). Giroux is the reigning GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week, posting 39 kills last weekend, and she has reached double-digit kills in all but two games this season.
Purdue Northwest is 13-10 overall and 7-7 in league play, tied for sixth in the conference. The Pride serve over two aces per game, tops in the conference, led by Marina Gronkiewicz, who has 46 this season, also leading the GLIAC. Three PNW players have over 200 kills on the season, with Gronkiewicz dishing out 744 assists on the season. The Pride have never beaten GVSU, losing all 16 matchups.
