HAMMOND, IND. – The 18
th ranked Grand Valley State women's volleyball team closed out the first weekend of October with a road victory over Purdue Northwest. The Lakers won in straight sets, moving them to 10-3 overall and 5-1 in GLIAC play.
GVSU won the match by the scores of 25-20, 26-24, and 25-15. The Pride opened a 12-7 lead in the first set, but the Lakers answered back to tie it at 15. It stayed tied until 19-19, then a 6-1 run by GVSU closed out the set, putting them up 1-0. Set two was back and forth, tied for most of the set. The Pride eventually took a slight lead at 18-16 and eventually held game point at 24-23. GVSU would answer back again, scoring the final three points, getting two kills from
Kennedy Arp and an ace from
Grace Busold to go up 2-0. The Lakers got up early in the third set, and never looked back, never allowing the Pride to get into the match, completing the sweep.
Kennedy Arp tied her career-high with 12 kills, swinging .667. She added two solo blocks and one block assist.
Brianna Stawski tallied seven kills and five total blocks.
Caroline Baker dished out 19 assists and
Meghan O'Sullivan posted 15.
Olivia Behen dug out 11 balls, with
Kendall Stover having 10, putting her over 1,000 for her career. GVSU totaled 10 blocks and held the Pride to a .039 hitting percentage, while hitting .299 themselves.
