#10 GVSU Set To Host Davenport In GLIAC Opener/Family Day Matchup

• #10 Grand Valley State will host Davenport in the GLIAC opener. The Lakers are coming off an unprecedented two-week bye in September, while Davenport was schedule to play Lincoln (Calif.) last week, but the game was cancelled . If you don't have a ticket you can watch the game live on FloCollege or locally on WXSP TV 15. 

• GVSU leads the all-time series versus Davenport by a 7-0 margin. In the last three meetings GVSU has outscored Davenport 148-14, dominating in all facets. The GVSU defense has limited the Panthers to 872 yards of total offense (218.0 pg)/426 rushing (106.5)/446 passing (111.5), while also holding DU to 10-55 (.181) on third down.
 
• GVSU is coming off a 17-14 loss at #12 Pittsburg State Sept. 13. The Lakers trailed 10-0 at the half, but regrouped and eventually took a 14-10 lead early in the fourth quarter. Pitt State answered with a TD drive of their own for the win.
 
Grand Valley State is under the direction of third-year head football coach Scott Wooster. Wooster has led the Lakers to a 24-5 mark, including two NCAA Division II playoff appearances and a GLIAC title his first two years.

Riley Simpson set a GVSU record with his 96-yard fumble return for a touchdown at Pitt State, breaking the mark of 95 held by Scott Mackey vs. Findlay in 2002. 


• LB Anthony Cardamone recorded a team-high 10 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and a QB sack at Pitt State.

• LB Torian Wyatt notched a career-high eight stops, a TFL and a QB sack at Pitt State. 

• DB Quin Wills recorded a career-high seven tackles at Pitt State.

• DL Jamari Buddin tallied six tackles, 2.0 TFL and a QB sack at Pitt State.

• DT Khamani Potts registered four tackles, 2.5 TFL and two QB hurries at Pitt State.

• GVSU tallied 18 plays of 10 yards or more vs. Black Hills State, including eight explosive plays of 20 yards or more.

• The Lakers recorded 436 yards of total offense on 56 plays vs. Black Hills State for an average of 7.8 yards per play.

• GVSU recorded four scoring plays of 27 (37, 55, 27, 33) yards or more and five of 14 yards or more, averaging 33.2 yards per scoring play vs. Black Hills State. 

 
• The Laker passing game averaged 11.5 yards per attempt and 17.0 yards per completion vs. Black Hills State.

• Grand Valley State redshirt freshman quarterback Andrew Schuster was named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week. Schuster completed 22-of-32 passes for 391 yards and four touchdowns in the Lakers' 48-36 victory over Black Hills State. The 391 passing yards is a GVSU freshman record and tied for ninth on the list of all-time, single-game passing yards list. Schuster completed passes to 10 different receivers, tallied seven completions of 30 yards or more and he engineered seven scoring drives that did not eclipse 2:39. In addition, five touchdown drives were 65 yards or more. Schuster has completed 39-of-53 passes (73.5) for 642 yards and seven touchdowns in his first two collegiate starts.

• Sophomore kicker Mathew Bacik is 3-for-4 in field goals this season with a long of 46 yards. He is 2-for-2 from the 40-50 yard range. 

• Senior LB Anthony Cardamone surpassed the 200-tackle (202), 30 tackles for loss (30.5) and 15 QB sacks (15.5) mark for his career. 

• GVSU has led the nation in total attendance for 13 consecutive years and 2025 is off to another outstanding start. The Lakers have drawn 25,972 through two home games (12,986 pg).

• The Laker defense tallied 11.0 tackles for loss (-53) and 4.0 QB sacks (-25) vs. Black Hills State. 

• The Laker offense has produced 13 plays of 20 or more through the first two games, including six that have gone for touchdowns.

• The GVSU offense was efficient, producing seven scoring drives and 10 possessions that ended with a kick. The Lakers picked up 26 first downs total. 

• RS freshman QB Andrw Schuster completed a freshman, single-game record 80.9 percent (17-of-21) of his passes vs. Lincoln. In addition, he completed passes to seven different players and completed three passes of 30 yards or more. 

• Junior LB Jimmy Downs tallied eight tackles, 2.0 TFL (-8), 1.0 QB sack (-8) and two QB hurries vs. Lincoln. 

• The Laker defense tallied 9.0 tackles for loss (-25) and picked off three passes vs. Lincoln, followed by an 11.0 (-53) TFL and 4.0 QB sack outing vs. Black Hills State.

• GVSU is the all-time winningest DII football program in terms of winning percentage for teams that have played over 500 games with a record of 456-153-3 (.748).  

• GVSU has now been ranked in the top 10 of a national preseason poll 21 times since 2002 (24 polls), including 18 top five rankings and 14 top three rankings.

• Grand Valley State has won 10 or more games 20 times in the 53-year history of the program, including 18 times since 2001.

• GVSU has won a total of four national championships (2002, 2003, 2005, 2006) in program history.

• The Lakers have made six NCAA championship appearances (2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2009) in program history.
