ALLENDALE, MICH. – Fresh off their first two wins of the new year, the GVSU women's basketball team is back in action this weekend, traveling to Ferris State on Thursday, then at Lake Superior State Saturday evening.

The Lakers opened the new year with two victories this past weekend, defeating Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan. The wins brought their record to 14-1 overall and 4-0 in league play. The Lakers cruised to a win over MTU, leading 44-19 at the half, resulting in a 93-52 win.
Rylie Bisballe scored 15 points to lead all scorers, with
Lauren Slagle adding 13 and
Abrie Cabana had 12. On Saturday, GVSU played their closest game of the year, winning by just 10 points, 81-71. Bisballe again led the way, scoring a season-high 22 points, grabbing 11 boards for her first double-double of the season.
Nicole Kamin added 14 points and
Lexi Plitzuweit had 10 points. The Laker defense held the Huskies and Wildcats leading scorers to a combined 6-21 shooting and five turnovers.
Thursday will be a matchup of the top two teams in the GLIAC, with both the Lakers and Bulldogs entering at 4-0 in league play. So far in conference play, Ferris State has defeated LSSU, Roosevelt, SVSU, and Wayne State. The Bulldog offense has been leading the way all season, averaging over 80 per game, and they have picked it up in conference play, scoring more than 88 points versus the GLIAC. Three players score in double-figures, with Kadyn Blanchard averaging 17.6 a game, leading both FSU and the GLIAC in scoring. In their most recent game, an 82-65 victory over Wayne State, the Bulldogs hit a school record 18 three-pointers. At 10-3 overall, the Bulldogs were receiving votes in the WBCA poll this week.
On Saturday, it will be Lakers versus Lakers, with GVSU heading across the Mackinac Bridge to Sault Ste. Marie to face off against Lake Superior State. LSSU is 4-8 this season and 1-3 in the GLIAC, losing to Ferris State, SVSU, and Wayne State, while defeating Roosevelt. Junior forward Grace Bradford is averaging a double-double this season, ranking sixth in the GLIAC with 15.1 points and first in the league with 10.6 rebounds. GVSU has won 19 straight games over LSSU, dating back to the 2012-13 season.
