#12 Grand Valley State Set To Compete At The Glenville State Quad That Features Four Ranked Teams

20 individuals ranked nationally set to wrestle

The #12 Grand Valley State men's wrestling team will hit the road for the opening weekend of 2025 at the Glenville Quad which is set for Sunday, January 5. Sunday's quad, which will be the first dual meet action for the Lakers, is one of the top four-team events that will take place in the country for the 2024-25 campaign. The Lakers will square off against #2 Glenville State at 10 a.m., #8 Lander at 11:30 p.m., and #22 Gannon at 1 p.m. In addition, the event will feature 20 wrestlers ranked in the top 15 of the National Wrestling Coaches Association rankings at 10 respective weights. 
 
The Lakers, who are in year two as a varsity sport after a 32-year hiatus, are coming off an eighth-place finish at the 2024 Midwest Classic with 75.5 points. Glenville State finished third with 127.0 points, Lander was sixth with 84.5 points and Gannon was 18th with 58.5 points. Glenville State is 6-1 in dual meet action, while Lander is 7-1 and Gannon is 2-1. 
 
"We have a number of young kids that will be wrestling in a college dual meet for the first time in their college careers and I am excited to see how we will compete in that dual meet atmosphere," said head coach Joey Simcoe. "You have to focus on your match within the framework of the dual and keep your emotions controlled," added Simcoe.  
 
Nine of the 10 weights have at least one ranked wrestler with three weights (133, 174, 285) featuring three ranked wrestlers. Eight weights will have two or more ranked grapplers.
