PLAINFIELD, Ill. – The Grand Valley State women's tennis team began the spring season with a convincing 5-0 sweep over McKendree Friday (Jan. 31) afternoon. The Lakers start the season 1-0 while McKendree falls to 0-1.
GVSU claimed wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to secure the doubles point.
Rachel Sam and
Estefania Hernandez claimed a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles.
Ipek Sakiroglu and
Kalomoira Ralli earned a dominate 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
Neus Ramos and Valentina Mozas dropped a tough 3-6 decision at the top doubles position.
In singles action,
Neus Ramos earned a hard fought 4-6, 6-4, 10-3 three-set win at the top doubles position. Valentina Mozas claimed a hard fought 6-4, 6-7, 10-8 three-set win at No. 2 singles.
Anna Soteras tallied a 7-5, 6-3 straight set win at No. 3 singles.
Estefania Hernandez posted a 6-3, 6-2 straight set win at No. 4 singles.
The Laker women will open their home schedule next weekend when they host Tiffin on Friday (Feb. 7) at 12:00 PM and Findlay on Saturday (Feb. 8) at 5:00 PM. Both matches will be played at Premier Athletic and Tennis Club in Grandville, Michigan.
