PLAINFIELD, Ill. – The Grand Valley State men's tennis team kicked off the spring season with a dominate 7-0 sweep over McKendree Friday (Jan. 31) afternoon. The Lakers start the season 1-0 while McKendree falls to 0-1.
GVSU swept doubles action to claim the doubles point.
Victor Lopes and
Lucas Gonzalez claimed a 6-4 win at the top doubles position.
Ignasi Garros and
Chimo Minguez tallied a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles.
Stephen Claassen and
Lawrence Ivanov added a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles.
In singles action,
Denys Zamaraiev claimed a 7-6 6-1 straight set win at the top singles position.
Victor Lopes won 6-4, 7-5 in straight sets at No. 2 singles.
Lucas Gonzalez tallied a 7-6, 6-3 straight set win at No. 3 singles.
Ignasi Garros claimed a 7-6, 6-4 straight set win at No. 4 singles.
Patricio Sepulveda earned a hard fought 7-6, 7-6 straight set win at No. 5 singles.
Stephen Claassen added a dominate 6-0, 6-0 straight set win at No. 6 singles.
The Laker men will open their home schedule next weekend when they host Tiffin on Friday (Feb. 7) at 12:00 PM and Findlay on Saturday (Feb. 8) at 5:00 PM. Both matches will be played at Premier Athletic and Tennis Club in Grandville, Michigan.
