INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – The GVSU volleyball opened their season at the UIndy Invitational today, and it was a good opening day for the Lakers. They took down host Indianapolis in straight sets, then downed IUP in four sets to begin the year at 2-0.
In the opener, GVSU got the sweep, winning 25-19, 25-22, and 25-15.
Brianna Stawski had a strong game against the Greyhounds, tallying a team-high 12 kills on a .600 hitting percentage, adding five total blocks.
Kate Goudreau had 10 kills, while
Kendall Stover had eight kills and 14 digs.
Jordyn Gates had 20 assists and
Meghan O'Sullivan had 12, while
Julia Blaney led the way with 16 digs.
After dropping the first set of the match against IUP, the Lakers bounced back to take the final three, winning 23-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-17. Gates recorded her first triple-double of the season, posting 16 kills, 21 assists, and 13 digs. Stover had 12 kills and 16 digs, adding five blocks. Stawski was a force at the net, recording nine blocks, while adding seven kills. Goudreau notched eight kills, while O'Sullivan had 16 assists.
Kennedy Arp served three aces, with
Caroline Baker dishing out 10 assists.
The Lakers are back in action tomorrow for two more games, facing Kentucky Wesleyan at noon, then taking on Maryville at 6:00.
