ALLENDALE, MICH. – The GVSU women's volleyball team bounced back from their first loss of the season last night to dominate Davenport this afternoon. The Lakers swept the Panthers to pick up their ninth win of the year.
GVSU jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the opening set to take control of the game early on. Davenport was able to get as close as four points, but could never close the gap as the Lakers took the opening set 25-17. Set two was complete domination by the Lakers. They went down 6-3 to begin, but then ripped off a 22-5 run to end the set with a 25-11 win. Set three was back and forth for most of the game. With the game tied at 13, GVSU went on a 5-0 run to take control. They never looked back from there, as they won the final set 25-22.
Jordyn Gates and
Paige Sanders each had seven kills to lead the offense. Gates added 21 assists and nine digs, with Sanders having six blocks.
Julia Blaney had 10 digs, while
Kendall Stover and
Kaitlyn Bingham both served two aces.
GVSU heads out on the road next week, traveling to LSSU on Friday then SVSU on Saturday.
