ALLENDALE, MICH. – The GVSU women's volleyball team concluded the early portion of their nonconference schedule with an undefeated record, as they took down Bemidji State this afternoon in straight sets to move to 8-0.
The Lakers swept the Beavers by the scores of 25-19, 25-18, and 25-15. Grand Valley led the from opening serve in the first set, only allowing the Beavers to tie it at two, then pulling away after that for the win. Bemidji State got out to an early 7-2 lead in the second set, but GVSU responded with a 6-0 run to take an 8-7 lead. The teams traded points for a few serves, but with GV holding a slim 14-13 lead, they ended the set on an 11-5 run to go up 2-0. The Lakers dominated the final set to complete the sweep and a perfect weekend at home.
Jordyn Gates led the way with 15 kills, 16 assists, and 10 digs. That is her fourth triple-double this season and the 32
nd of her career, tying the all-time NCAA record in the stat.
Kendall Stover added eight kills and eight digs, with
Meghan O'Sullivan recording 12 assists and six digs.
Caroline Baker had 10 assists, while
Paige Sanders had 5.5 blocks.
GVSU starts GLIAC play next weekend, welcoming Ferris State and Davenport to Allendale for the opening weekend.
