GVSU Men & Women Dominate GLIAC Track & Field Championships

The Grand Valley State men's and women's track & field teams dominated the competition at the 2024 GLIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships held on the GVSU campus. The Laker women claimed their 24 consecutive GLIAC Outdoor Championship with 245.5 points, well ahead of Saginaw Valley State's 147 points. The GVSU men captured their 17th league title overall, 9th-of-the-last-10 and six consecutive with a score of 319 points. Saginaw Valley State was second with 151 points. 

Men
100 Meters – Antonio Passarelli finished fourth with a time of 10.50.

200 Meters -  Andrew Pizzico finished third with a time of 21.39, while Henry Kennedy finished sixth (22.07)

400 Meters – The Lakers went 1-2-3 with Myles Rhodes claimed the GLIAC crown with a time of 46.98, Zach Pray crossed second (47.56) and Dominik Balenda third (48.53). 
 
800 Meters – Patrick Lyell finished first in a time 1:51.14, followed by Scott Spaanstra in fifth (1:51.72).
 
1500 – Caleb Futter claimed another GLIAC crown with a first-place finish (3:54.17), Cal Yackin crossed fourth (3:55.56) and Gabriel Connelly finished sixth (3:58.19). 
 
5000 Meters – Daniel Lambert was impressive and crossed the finish line first in a time of 14:30.94. Ryan Ruppert crossed fifth (14:47.92) and Drennan Akins sixth (14:51.68).
 
10,000 Meters – Joe Rinke crossed the finish line fourth in a time of 31:15.22, followed byColin Kachlic in sixth (31:20.63) and Colin Hanson in eighth (32:05.93). 
 
110 Hurdles – Joshua Hurt led a 1-2-3 GVSU finish with a first-place finishing time of 14:28, with Ethan Smith crossing second (14:31) and Steven Harris third (14:96). 
 
400 Hurdles – Fallou Gaye crossed the finish line first in a time 53.72, while Lance Riddle was third (53.96). 
 
4x100 Relay – The relay team of Antonio Passarelli, Nicholas Walper, Andrew Pizzico and Myles Rhodes finished first in a time of 40.16. 
 
4x400 Relay – The relay team of Dominik Balenda, Zach Pray, Follou Gaye and Myles Rhodes crossed the finish line first in a time of 3:11.78. 
 
Triple Jump – Harold Gee finished eighth with a jump of 12.37 meters.
 
Shot Put – Myles Kerner finished first with a toss of 19.33 meters and Matt Thomas was third with a throw of 18.36 meters.
 
Discus – James Mackey JR. won the GLIAC title with a throw of 53.71 meters and Nathan Spitzley finished third (52.14m)
 
Hammer – Matt Thomas finished first with a throw of 61.97 meters, Shane Byrne was second (60.00) and Ty Anthony was fifth (50.67m).
 
Jevelin – Bobby Maxwell claimed the GLIAC crown with a throw of 63.46 meters and Will Gaston was second (56.28m). 
 
 
 
Women 
 
100 Meters – Taylor Kyle finished third with a time of 12.01, while Melia Williams finished fifth (12.23).
 
200 Meters – Catherine Guckenberger finished third (24.66) and Melia Williams seventh (25.22). 
 
400 Meters – Isabel Abdouch crossed the finish line second (56.83) and Taryn Chapko finished seventh (57.74). 
 
800 Meters – Klaudia O'Malley claimed the GLIAC title with a time of 2:09.57, while Cameron Cleveland finished sixth in a time of 2:16.09 and Sydney Nesbitt crossed eighth (2:21.57). 
 
1500 Meters – Maria Mitchell claimed the GLIAC title with a time of 4:30.13, while Landyn Howell finished sixth (4:37.83).
 
5000 Meters – Klaudia O'Malley claimed her second GLIAC crown with a dominating performance, crossing the finish line in 16:41.08, while Sarah May finished second in a time of 16:55.32. 
 
10,000 Meters – Maggie O'Malley turned in an outstanding run and finished second in a time of 36:44.26, while Maria Widmann crossed fourth (36:56.56).
 
100 Hurdles – Brooke Barkocy crossed fourth in a time of 13.93, while Destini Dorkins crossed sixth (14.46).
 
400 Hurdles – Ashtyn Gluck finished third with a time of 1:02.37. 
 
4x100 Relay – The relay team of Melia Williams, Taylor Kyle, Alania Diaz and Kate Zang finished second in a time of 46.35. 
 
4x400 Relay – The relay team of Isabel Abdouch, Catherine Guckenberger, Alaina Diaz and Kate Zang finished first in a time of 3:46.36. 
 
High Jump – Joslyn Bentz finished fifth with a jump of 1:61 meters, while Sydney Cangilla finished her career with a sixth-place finish (1:58).
 
Pole Vault – Kendyl Hahlen claimed the GLIAC title with a vault of 3.47 meters, while Miranda Firari was second (3.47m).
 
Long Jump – Alaina Diaz finished fourth with a jump of 5.83 meters. 
 
Shot Put – The Lakers went 1 – 5 in the shot put. Erika Beistle finished first with a throw of 14.54 meters, followed by Mackenzie Bohrer in second (14.19m), Reette Thorns in third (14.13m), Paige Westra in fourth (13.96m) and Margaret Stevenson in fifth (13.90m).
 
Discus – Erika Beistle claimed her second GLIAC crown with  a throw of 56.04 meters, while Margaret Stevenson was second (52.14m) and Paige Westra third (42.81m).
