BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Valley State men's tennis team opened up the NCAA Tournament with a dominate 4-0 upset over the two seed Ferris State Monday (May 13) in Big Rapids. The Lakers improve 15-7 on the season.
GVSU claimed the double point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Sean Miller and
Freddy Cossio tallied a 6-3 win at the top singles position.
Lucas Gonzalez and
Victor Lopes posted a 6-4 win at No. 3 singles.
In singles action,
Denys Zamaraiev clinched the win with 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 three-set victory at the top doubles position.
Victor Lopes claimed a 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 three-set win at No. 4 singles.
Freddy Cossion tallied a 6-1, 6-4 straight set win at No. 6 singles.
The Lakers advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament where they will face the winner of Wayne State and Tiffin tomorrow (May 14) morning. First serve is set for 10:00 AM in Big Rapids.
