GVSU Baseball Claims 10-1 Victory Over Parkside

Back To The Ballpark set for Saturday from 12-2 at the GVSU Baseball Field

Grand Valley State claimed a 10-1 victory over Parkside Friday afternoon at the GVSU Baseball Field. The Lakers, 14-12 overall and 6-3 in GLIAC action, will host the Rangers Saturday (April 6) in a league doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Saturday is Back To The Ballpark Day at Grand Valley State with free Jimmy John's and Culver's Custard being available from 12 – 2 p.m. at the GVSU Baseball Field. 
 
GVSU opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning, pushing across three runs on four hits. 3B Jonas Gulbrandsen double to left and RF Nathan Logan singled home Gulbrandsen. C Brendan Guciardo recorded an RBI double to right center to score Logan and 2B Jake Rydquist scored Guciardo with a single to give the Lakers a 3-0 lead. 
 
Parkside scored an unearned run the top of the third, but the Lakers scored a pair in the bottom of the fifth. CF Kyle Nott walked and LF Ryan Dykstra homered to right field to up the lead to 5-1. 
 
Grand Valley State broke the game open in the bottom of the seventh with five runs on four hits. Dykstra single to right with one out and Gulbrandsen smashed a 2-run home run to left. Guciardo and 1B Logan Anderson walked before DH Connor McCormack hit a 3-run shot over the scoreboard to give GVSU a 10-1 lead. 
 
Dykstra was 2-4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored, while Gulbrandsen was 3-4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored. Rydquist was 3-3 with an RBI, while McCormack was 1-4 with a home runs and three RBI. Logan was 1-3 with an RBI and run scored and Guciardo was 1-2 with an RBI and two runs scored. Nott walked twice and scored a run. 
 
Senior RHP Nick Rutkowski (4-2) picked up the win, yielding one unearned run on five hits in 6.1 IP. Senior RHP Sam Leck went the final 2.1 innings of no-hit baseball. 
 
Guciardo and Rydquist each reached the career 100-hit mark, while Logan reached the 125 RBI mark.
