GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. – The GVSU women's lacrosse team closed out the regular season this afternoon in a rematch against Davenport. Just like the first matchup, GVSU overcame a slow start to pick up the win, pulling out a 9-4 victory. They end the regular season at 15-1 overall and a perfect 6-0 in GLIAC play.

Neither team could get much going in the first half, trading goals for the entire 30 minutes. Maddy Champagne began the scoring, but the Panthers answered back less than a minute later. Sydney Stone put GVSU back in front again, but again was answered by DU. Stone struck again before the end of the first quarter, getting an assist from Ashleigh Rothe, as GVSU led 3-2 after the period.

Davenport tied the game up less than a minute into the quarter, knotting it at three. Zoe Ziegler got an assist from Grace Maddox to make it 4-3 GVSU midway through the second. The Panthers tied it back up at four before the end of the half to make it 4-4 at the break.

Stone put the Lakers up for good with the opening goal of the second half, as she got a pass from Champagne and found the back of the net. Kate DeYoung then got in the scorebook, with her first goal of the game, with the assist going to Delaney Smith. Champagne dished out two more assists, one to Smith and one to Ziegler to make it 8-4 after three. With the four points in the game, Champagne reached 226 for her career, giving her the most career points in the history of the program.

Hailey Crittenden tallied the lone goal of the four quarter, and the GVSU defense pitched a second half shutout to win their 11th consecutive game.

Sydney Stone recorded a hat trick, while Zoe Ziegler scored twice. Maddy Champagne, Hailey Crittenden, Delaney Smith, and Kate DeYoung all scored once. Champagne dished out three assists, with Smith, Ashleigh Rothe, and Grace Maddox each had one.
