Grand Valley State swept Parkside in a GLIAC doubleheader at the GVSU Softball Field and claimed the 2024 GLIAC Softball Championship in the process. GVSU won game one 7-1 and game two 5-0. The GLIAC will annouce the GLIAC Tournament seeding and schedule Sunday.
Game 1
GVSU scored a run in the bottom of the first as
Hannah Hollister reached on a bunt single, stole second and went to third on a wild pitch.
Kelsey Komorous then laid down the perfect squeeze bunt to score Hollister to give the Lakers a 1-0 lead. Parkside scored an unearned run in the top of the second and that was all of the scoring until GVSU pated five in the bottom of the fifth on three hits.
Morgan Spicer double to right with one out and Komorous was hit by a pitch.
Liberti Fair reached on an infield single to load the bases and
Megan Koenigshof plated a pair with a single. Fair scored on a ground out and
MaryJane Goodman and Koenigshof scored on an error to up the lead to 6-1. Komorous, who reached on a fielder's choice and went to third on a Fair single, scored on a wild pitch.
Ashley Platek went the distance, yielding one unearned run on six hits with three strikeouts. Fair was 3-4 with a run scored, while Koenigshof was 2-4 with two RBI. Hollister and Spicer were each 2-4 with a run scored.
Game 2
GVSU scored all the runs they would need in the bottom of the first, five, and pitcher
Genesis Eggart did the rest with a complete game, 1-hit, 10 strikeout shutout.
Hollister singled, stole second and scored a Spicer double. Komorous walked and a passed ball advanced the runners. Fair delivered an RBI single to score Spicer and Goodman added a 2-run single.
Faith Edwards recorded an RBI with a ground ball to up the Laker lead to 5-0.
Eggart yielded a leadoff double in the second and walked one batter for the only traffic on the bases. Spicer was 3-4 with a run scored and RBI, while Goodman drove in a pair in a 2-3 outing. Hollister was 2-3 with a walk and run scored. Fair was 1-4 with an RBI and run scored and Edwards was 1-3 with an RBI.
