Lakers Close Out GVSU Extra Weekend Meet

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Grand Valley State track and field program hosted their final home meet before conference, the GVSU Extra Weekend Meet on Thursday, April 25th.

Final Results

Caleb Futter brought all the excitement to the track in the men's 1500m, as he set two new records for Grand Valley State. Futter recorded a new personal-best time of 3:43.12, breaking the Grand Valley State school and facility record. 

Elias Bergman and Patrick Lyell finished back-to-back, earning third and fourth place. Bergman in third with a new personal-best time of 3:45.15 and Lyell in fourth in a time of 3:45.18.

In the women's 1500m, Klaudia O'Malley took home first place for the women with a time of 4:21.40, just three seconds shy of the Grand Valley State record. 

In the 800m, Taryn Chapko finished in second place on the women's side recording a time of 2:08.98, while Scott Spaanstra and Tyler Puskar finished back-to-back for the men earning fifth and sixth place. Spaanstra in fifth with a time of 1:53.57 and Puskar in sixth in a time of 1:53.68. 

Maria Mitchell finished in second place in the women's 3000m steeplechase in a time of 10:31.89 followed by Landyn Howell in seventh with a time of 10:46.14 and Jordyn Hopgood in eighth in a time of 10:51.27.

In the men's 5000m, Tanner Chada finished in first place with a time of 14:10.30 followed by Samuel Martens in sixth in a time of 14:25.60 and Colin Hanson in ninth with a time of 14:29.67. On the women's side, Abby Vanderkooi and Sarah May finished back-to-back in ninth and 10th place. Vanderkooi recorded a time of 16:46.29 and May a time of 16:46.33. 

Brock Wooderson finished in third place in the men's 10,000m recording a time of 30:12.05, followed by Daniel Lambert in fourth in a time of 30:33.93.

For the sprints crew, Isabel Abdouch earned fourth place in the women's 400m recording a time of 57.86. For the men, Dominik Balenda finished in second place with a time of 48.82. 

In the 110m hurdles, Steven Harris brought home first place for the Lakers recording a time of 14.09. Lance Riddle finished in ninth place with a time of 15.41. In the 100m dash, Henry Kennedy finished in seventh place in a time of 10.99. 

In the men's 400m hurdles, Steven Harris recorded a new personal-best time of 51.42, ranking him sixth overall in Division II. Fallou Gaye finished in second place with a time of 53.32, followed by Lance Riddle in fifth place with a time of 55.67. 

In the throwing circle, Nathan Spitzley finished in second place in the men's discus throw with a distance of 50.12m. Reette Thorns earned third place in the women's shot put with a throw of 13.96m

In the men's long jump, Josh Fernando finished in first place with a huge new personal-best of 6.82m. Mason Floria earned 10th place overall with a distance of 6.28m.

The Grand Valley State sprints and field squads will head to Louisville, Kentucky to compete at the Clark Wood Invitational on Friday, April 26th through the 27th.

The Clark Wood Invitational will kick off on Friday with the men's hammer throw beginning at 11:00 a.m.
