GVSU Claims Series Finale At Wayne State, 8-2

GVSU claims season series 4-2 and weekend series 3-1

Grand Valley State won the final game of the GLIAC four-game series by a score of 8-2 and claimed the season (4-2) and weekend (3-1) with Wayne State. The Lakers, who improved to 21-18 overall, moved into sole possession of second place in the GLIAC with a 13-7 mark. Grand Valley State will be at Davenport for a GLIAC contest on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
 
GVSU opened the scoring in the third inning when 2B Jake Rydquist singled to open the inning and CF Ayden VanEnkevort reached on an error. LF Ryan Dykstra came through with a sac bunt and SS Connor Schuman delivered a 2-RBI single to center. Schuman stole second, went to third on an infield single by 3B Jonas Gulbrandsen and scored on an RBI double to left by C Brendan Guciardo. 
 
Rydquist hit a solo home run to left with two outs in the fourth to give the Lakers a 4-0 lead. Dykstra walked with one out in the seventh and Schuman singled to right and advanced Dykstra to third. Gulbrandsen then delivered an RBI single to left that scored Dykstra. 
 
The Lakers added two runs in the top of the eighth when DH Connor McCormack singled and Rydquist followed with an RBI double to left that scored McCormack. Dykstra scored Rydquist with a two-out single to left to give GVSU a 7-1 lead. 
 
Guciardo reached base on catcher's interference to begin the ninth. Anderson and Rydquist walked to load the bases and VanEnkevort reached on an error that scored Guciardo. 
 
Mike Riley (3-3) picked up the win on the mound and was stellar. Riley yielded two runs on seven hits with four strikeouts. Will Goebel went the final two innings with two strikeouts.
 
Rydquist was 3-2 with a homerun, double two RBI and three runs scored. Schuman was 3-4 with two RBI and a run scored, while Gulbrandsen was 3-5 with an RBI. Guciardo was 2-4 with a double, RBI and runs scored. Dykstra drove in a run and scored a run on a 1-4 outing, while Logan, Anderson and McCormack each recorded a hit.
