Lakers Close Out California Weekend

 The Grand Valley State track and field team ended their week-long trip in California on Saturday, April 13th, as they took on four meets within a span of four days. Additionally, a group of Lakers competed at the Calvin Outdoor Meet on Saturday.

Beach Invite
In Long Beach, CA. the Lakers' throws crew finished out their time in California with the men's and women's shot put, as well as the men's and women's discus. 

Myles Kerner earned second place in the men's shot put recording a throw of 19.30m followed by Matt Thomas in sixth place with a throw of 18.01m. 

In the women's shot put, Margaret Stevenson earned 18th place with a distance of 14.21m, Reette Thorns finished in 21stplace with a distance of 14.09m, Paige Westra in 31st with a throw of 13.59m and Mackenzie Bohrer in 32nd with a distance of 13.59m. 

Erika Beistle finished in eighth place in the women's discus, recording a distance of 52.88m. 

Bryan Clay Invitational
Wyatt Alwine and Colton Emeott finished back to back in the men's pole vault section "A", earning fifth and sixth place. Alwine and Emeott both cleared a height of 4.75m. 

Taylor DeHommel earned second place in the women's pole vault section "A", clearing a height of 4.02m. 

In the pole vault section "B", Dolan Gonzales finished in second place for the Laker men at a height of 4.75. Miranda Firari earned seventh place at a height of 3.57m. 

On the track, Landyn Howell and Cameron Cleveland both recorded a new personal-best time in the women's 1500m open. Howell recording a time of 4:41.51 and Cleveland a time of 4:43.41.

In the 1500m invite, Klaudia O'Malley finished with a time of 4:20.84 followed by Taryn Chapko in a time of 4:25.88. 

On the men's side, Caleb Futter recorded a time of 3:50.77 in the men's 1500m invite. 

Elias Bergman recorded a new personal-best of 3:46.84 in the men's 1500m open "A", finishing in 19th place overall. Patrick Lyell finished in a time of 3:49.99 and Cal Yackin with a time of 3:55.31.

Calvin Outdoor Meet
At the Calvin Outdoor Meet the Lakers dominated on both the track and the field, earning 24 first place finishes on the day. 

In the throwing circle, Natalia Pluff finished in first place in the women's hammer throw with a distance of 46.40m. 

The women's jump crew took over the long jump and high jump, earning first place in both events. Gloria Stepanovich took home first in the long jump with a distance of 4.60m, while Abby DeOuden cleared a height of 1.55m in the high jump to earn a first place finish. 

On the men's side, Preston Nichols secured a first place finish in the men's javelin recording a a distance of 52.74m. Harold Gee finished in first place in the men's triple jump with a distance of 12.51m. 

Down on the track, Jordyn Hopgood and Paige McAloon finished back to back in the women's 3000m steeplechase, earning first and second place. Hopgood leading the pack with a time of 11:16.43 and McAloon in a time of 11:44.16.

Sarah May recorded two first place finishes at the Calvin Outdoor Meet, in the 800m and 1500m. May recorded a new personal-best in the 800m with a time of 2:20.35 and a time of 4:40.12 in the 1500m. 

In the 5000m, Maria Widmann finished in first place with a time of 17:12.99 followed by Maggie O'Malley in fourth in a time of 17:50.12. 

The women's 4x100m relay earned first place with a time of 46.91. The women's relay consisted of Melia Williams, Taylor Kyle, Isabel Abdouch and Catherine Guckenberger.

Brooke Barkocy and Destini Dorkins finished back to back in the 100m hurdles, recording first and second place. Barkocy recorded a time of 14.51 and Dorkins a time of 14.96. 

In the 400m, the Lakers went 1-3 led by Catherine Guckenberger. Guckenberger finished with a time of 56.62 followed by Isabel Abdouch in a time of 56.63 and Sydney Nesbitt with a time of 1:00.84. 

Taylor Kyle and Melia Williams finished back to back in the women's 100m, earning first and second place. Kyle finished in a time of 12.24 and Williams in a time of 12.51.

On the men's side, Drennan Akins earned first place in the men's 3000m steeplechase with a new personal-best time of 9:44.26.

In the men's 5000m, Joe Rinke and Colin Hanson finished back to back earning first and second place. Rinke recorded a new personal-best time of 14:51.60 and Hanson a time of 14:52.00. 

The Lakers had two relay teams in the 4x100m, finishing back to back earning first and second place. The men's "A" relay team consisting of Antonio Passarelli, Nicholas Walper, Andrew Pizzico and Myles Rhodes recorded a new personal-best time of 40.92.

In the 110m hurdles, Joshua Hurt earned first place with a time of 14.98 followed by Lance Riddle in second in a time of 16.23. 

In the men's 400m, Grand Valley State went 1-3 led by Myles Rhodes. Rhodes finished with a time of 47.81, Zach Pray in second with a time of 48.10 and Dominik Balenda in third with a time of 48.59. 

The Laker men swept the men's 200m securing 1-4, with Antonio Passarelli taking home first place. Passarelli recorded a time of 21.90, followed by Zach Pray with a time of 21.96, Dominik Balenda in a time of 22.00 and Henry Kennedy with a time of 22.01.
