Another Defensive Clinic moves Lacrosse to 11-1

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The nonconference schedule is officially complete after the GVSU women's lacrosse team took down Walsh this afternoon. The Laker defense once again stood strong in the 11-3 victory.
 
Sydney Stone opened the scoring with a goal five a half minutes into the game. Maddy Champagne followed that up with two straight to put GVSU up 3-0 after one.
 
Walsh got on the board to begin the second quarter, but Champagne answered back with her third goal to put GVSU back up by three. Stone closed out the quarter with another goal, as it was a defensive battle at the break, with GVSU leading 5-1. Walsh only attempted six shots in the half, and Kaylyn Cater had four saves.
 
Stone got her hat trick early in the first quarter, getting an assist from Jillian Bingman. Delaney Smith added a goal, then Ella Boose scored off an assist from Ashleigh Rothe. the Cavaliers scored their second goal of the game late in the quarter, trailing 8-2 after three quarters.
 
GVSU scored the first three goals of the fourth period, as Champagne scored two goals around a score from Rothe. Walsh scored the final goal of the day, only enough to make it an eight-point loss for the Cavaliers.
 
Maddy Champagne had five goals, with Sydney Stone adding a hat trick. Delaney Smith, Ella Boose, and Ashleigh Rothe all scored one. Rothe and Jillian Bingman both had assists.
 
Kaylyn Cater was fantastic in net, recording six saves to anchor the Laker defense. GVSU caused 15 turnovers and picked up 19 groundballs. Rothe and Alkire both caused four turnovers, with Champagne and Lauren Volk both causing two. Alkire had three groundballs, including the 100th of her career, and Hope Leinin also picked up three. Rothe, Volk, Stone, and Kylie Waeghe all had two groundballs.
