DETROIT – The Grand Valley State men's tennis team fell to Wayne State 4-3 Friday (Apr. 12) afternoon. The Lakers fall to 11-6 on the season and 2-2 in GLIAC play.
Wayne State swept doubles action to claim the doubles point.
Sean Miller and
Victor Lopes dropped a tough 4-6 decision at the top doubles position.
Chimo Minguez and
Jorge Ruiz lost a 3-6 decision at No. 2 doubles.
Stephen Claassen and
Lawrence Ivanov dropped a tough 6-7 decision at No. 3 doubles.
In singles action,
Victor Lopes claimed a 6-7, 6-4, 6-2 three-set win at No. 4 singles.
Jorge Ruiz tallied a 6-4, 6-0 straight set win at No. 5 singles.
Chimo Minguez added a 6-4, 6-2 straight set win at No. 6 singles.
Denys Zamaraiev lost a tough 4-6, 6-3, 1-6 three-set decision at the top singles position.
Sean Miller dropped a tough 0-6, 6-2, 2-6 three-set decision at No. 2 singles.
Lucas Gonzalez fell 2-6, 6-7 at No. 3 singles.
The Lakers will return home next week for their final two matches of the regular season. GVSU will host Lake Superior State on Friday, April 19
th at 12:00 PM before closing the regular season against Michigan Tech on Saturday, April 20
th at 5:00 PM. Both games will be played at Premier Athletic and Tennis Club.
