PITTSBURG, KANSAS – The Grand Valley State track and field program finished in second and fourth place overall at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Nationals. The Laker men claimed a runner-up finish with a total score of 56.5 points, falling shortly behind Pittsburg State (69 pts). While the women took home fourth place with a team score of 48 points, behind Minnesota State (54 pts), Pittsburg State (64.5 pts) and Adams State (67 pts).
Final Results
Grand Valley State secured four individual National Champions on day two between both the men's and women's program. The men's crew brought in three individual titles within the shot put, high jump and mile, while the women secured the title in the shot put.
Myles Kerner defended his indoor National title in the men's shot put, as he was the first Laker to earn the individual title on day two. Kerner threw for a distance of 19.31m.
The men's high jump crew finished with all three athletes on the podium, earning sixth, second and first place.
Jaivon Harrison led the crew as he earned his first individual Division II National title, clearing a height of 2.19m.
Jonathan Rankins-James finished in second place clearing a height of 2.19m, while
Eli Kosiba tied for sixth with a height of 2.13m. The high jump crew recorded a total of 20.5 points for Grand Valley.
Caleb Futter was the last Laker on the men's side to bring home the individual crown and additional 10 points. Futter competed in the men's mile, recording a time of 4:18.02.
Erika Beistle brought home the Laker women's only individual title of the weekend in the women's shot put, throwing a distance of 16.37m. Additionally,
Reette Thorns finished in seventh place with a throw of 14.73m.
In addition,
Klaudia O'Malley and
Taryn Chapko both earned fourth place in their respective events. O'Malley in the women's mile with a personal-best time of 4:43.71 and Chapko in the 800m recording a time of 2:09.15.
In the women's 3000m, Grand Valley State finished with two runners in the Top 8.
Lauren Kiley led the way finishing in seventh place with a new personal-best time of 9:27.58, followed by
Natalie Graber in eighth with a time of 9:27.84.
The Laker men end their 2024 indoor season as the defending GLIAC Champions and the Division II National Runner-Ups.
The women's program finishes out their indoor season as the defending GLIAC Champions and fourth place in Division II.
