WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The No. 5 Grand Valley State softball team split a pair of games at the Spring Games Friday (Mar. 8) afternoon.
Ashley Platek tossed a no-hitter in five innings as the Lakers defeated California (Pa.) 8-0 before falling to Missouri – St. Louis 4-3.
Game One vs California (Pa.) – W, 8-0
GVSU jumped out ahead early with a three-run first inning.
Kelsey Komorous got the scoring started with an RBI single up the middle scoring

Morgan Spicer and Komorous.
The Lakers would take a commanding 8-0 lead with a five-run fourth inning. Hollister drove home
Faith Edwards with an RBI single through the right side. Two batters later, Komorous drove home Hollister off an RBI single to left center.

Kylie Sinal drove home two runs on a single.
Ashley Platek got the start in the circle and tossed the 31
st no-hitter in program history. Platek struck out four and walked two batters, improving to 3-2 in the circle this season.
Jenna Ballard went 3-3 at the plate with two runs batted in and a run scored. Kelsye Komorous hit 2-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Morgan Spicer batted 2-3 with a run scored, while
MaryJane Goodman hit 2-3 with one RBI and one run scored.
Hannah Hollister added a run scored and RBI in the win.
Game Two vs Missouri – St. louis – L, 4-3
The Lakers took the early lead in game two scoring two runs in the opening inning.
Morgan Spicer tripled to right field to score
Hannah Hollister. Two batters later, Jenna ballard ghit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Spicer.
Missouri – St. Louis would tie the game at two in the second inning off a 2-RBI single up the middle. GVSU would retake the lead in the third inning to go up 3-2. Hollister scored off a Triton wild pitch. Missouri – St. Louis would respond with two runs in the bottom half of the third and would hang to win by a score of 4-3.
Genesis Eggart got the start in the circle and suffered the loss (6-1) after tossing six innings allowing four runs (two earned) off eight hits with five strikeouts. Hollister recorded a hit and scored two runs. Komorous and Ballard each notched a hit and RBI.
GVSU will close out their trip at the Spring Games in Florida tomorrow (Mar. 9) when they play Minnesota Duluth at 9:15 AM and Indiana (Pa.) at 11:30 AM. Both games will be streamed live on FloSports.
