GVSU Advances To Saturday's Semifinals With Victory Over PNW

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The GVSU women's basketball team kicked off postseason play this evening with a GLIAC Quarterfinal matchup against Purdue Northwest. The Lakers led for all but 1:10 of the game, as they picked up the 65-54 win.

After the Pride scored the opening bucket of the game, GVSU responded with a 9-0 run, ignited by an Abrie Cabana triple. PNW was able to battle back and tie the game at nine, but once again the Lakers went on a run, this time a 10-0 run. The two teams traded baskets the rest of the way, as GVSU led 23-14 after one.

The Lakers kept their lead above double-digits for most of the second quarter, peaking at 14 points following two Rylie Bisballe free throws. The Pride buried a three-pointer right after that, but Cabana hit a late layup to put the Lakers up 37-24 at the half.

The Pride got their deficit down to eight early in the second half, but a quick 7-0 Laker run put them back up by 15. The lead grew to as much as 17 points, but ultimately GVSU ended the third quarter up 14 points, leading 52-38.

After the Lakers went up by 16, PNW responded with an 8-0 run to make it a single-digit game once again. Hadley Miller answered with four straight points to put GVSU up by 12 and end any hope of a Pride comeback, as the Lakers advanced to Saturday's semifinals.

Nicole Kamin led the way with 18 points, adding three steals and two blocks. Rylie Bisballe had a double-double, recording 13 points and 14 rebounds. Abrie Cabana had nine points and three assists, while Lexi Plitzuweit tallied eight points and six rebounds.
