Grand Valley State split a non-conference doubleheader with Minnesota-Duluth Wednesday afternoon at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale, Florida. The Lakers won game one in shutout fashion (5-0), but dropped game two by a 5-3 score. The Lakers will play Notre Dame College Friday at the Lake Myrtle, with first-pitch slated for 6:30 p.m.
Game 1 -
Sophomore pitcher
Ayden VanEnkevort was stellar, yielding just two hits in 5.0 innings of work. Junior
Michael Riley completed the combined shutout, giving up just one hit with two strikeouts in 2.0 innings of work.
DH Connor McCormack singled to open the top of the third and moved to second on a walk to second baseman

Kyle Nott walked and left fielder
Ryan Dykstra singled to right to score McCormack. GVSU added another run in the top of the fourth when catcher
Brendan Guciardo singled to open the frame. Right fielder Nate Logan walked and first baseman
Logan Anderson moved the runners up with a sac bunt. McCormack drove home Guciardo with a sac fly to give the Lakers a 2-0 lead. Senior shortstop
Connor Schuman singled to open the fifth, stole second, went to third on a Nott ground out to first and scored on a sac fly off the bat of Dykstra. The Lakers added an two insurance runs in the top of the seventh when Nott laced a two-out single to center to plate Warren and Schuman.
Nott was 1-for-3 with two RBI, while Dykstra was 1-for-2 with two RBI. Schuman was 2-for-4 with two runs scored
Game 2 -
The Lakers built a 3-0 after four innings of action, scoring two in the bottom of the third when Nott walked and scored on a two-run, home run off the bat of Gulbrandsen. Schuman singled home McCormac who opened the inning with a single to left. GVSU held the Bulldogs off the scoreboard for 11 consecutive innings, but UMD pushed across two runs on a two-run home run in the top of the fifth and added three runs on three hits and two walks in the top of the sixth to take a 5-3 lead.
Redshirt freshman
Owen Avery, who was not involved in the decision, got the start and was impressive. Avery yielded just two hits, while striking out three in three innings or work.
Logan Wynalda was tagge with the loss (0-1). Gulbrandsen was 3-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.
