Lakers Conclude Three-Day Weekend

The Grand Valley State track and field program closed out their weekend on a high note after competing at four meets on the final day (Saturday, March 30th). The Lakers took on the Texas Relays and Bobcat Invitational down in Texas, the Raleigh Relays in North Carolina and the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational in Ohio. 

The Lakers recorded a combined total of 10 personal-best marks on their final day competing, including setting a new Grand Valley State school record in the men's high jump. 
Texas Relays
At the Texas Relays, Jaivon Harrison led the Lakers in the men's high jump as he cleared a height of 2.26m, earning a second place finish overall. Harrison not only recorded a new personal-best height, but is now the newest Grand Valley State record holder in the men's outdoor high jump. Eli Kosiba and Jonathan Rankins-James tied for fourth place, both clearing a height of 2.15m. 

In the throwing circle, Margaret Stevenson recorded a new personal-best in the women's shot put. Stevenson threw 51.87m, earning second place. 

Myles Kerner and Matt Thomas finished in first and seventh in the men's shot put to end Grand Valley's time at the Texas Relays. Kerner threw for a distance of 19.67m, beating out the second place finisher by almost two feet and Thomas a distance of 18.42m.

Raleigh Relays
The distance crew ended their time at the Raleigh Relays taking on the men's and women's 800m on the final day. 

On the women's side, Taryn Chapko led Grand Valley as she finished in 42nd place with a time of 2:09.61, followed by Klaudia O'Malley in 44th place recording a new personal-best time of 2:09.99.
For the men, Patrick Lyell finished in a time of 1:53.90 followed by Quinton Bauer with a new personal-best time of 1:53.94. 

Oliver Nikoloff Invitational
The pole vault crew took over in Cincinnati, Ohio as they finished with a total of seven athletes in the Top 10. 

On the men's side, freshman Dolan Gonzales cleared a new personal-best height of 5.05m, earning a second place finish on the day. Wyatt Alwine finished in third place with a height of 5.05m, Mac Rauch in fifth clearing 4.75m and James Nutt and Colton Emeott tied for ninth with a height of 4.60m. 

For the women, Taylor DeHommel finished in second place clearing a height of 4.00m followed by Miranda Firari in sixth with a height of 3.70m. 

Bobcat Invitational 
Shane Byrne kicked off the final day for the Lakers at the Bobcat Invitational as he took on the men's hammer throw. Byrne finished in 10th place with a new personal-best throw of 60.42m.

In the women's shot put, Mackenzie Bohrer finished in seventh place throwing a distance of 14.53m followed by Reette Thorns in 10th (14.06m) and Paige Westa in 14th (13.25m). 

On the track, the women's 4x100m relay team consisting of Melia Williams, Taylor Kyle, Kate Zang, Isabel Abdouch and Catherine Guckenberger recorded a seventh place finish overall with a time of 46.57. 

Destini Dorkins set a new personal-best in the women's 100m hurdles, recording a time of 14.50 earning 24th place. 

In the men's and women's 100m, the Lakers recorded three new personal-best times on their final day. Taylor Kyle and Alaina Diaz finished back to back on the women's side, earning 26th and 27th. Kyle finished in a time of 12.05 and Diaz with a time of 12.10. Antonio Passarelli finished in 29th with a time of 10.66.
