ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State women's tennis team opened up the weekend with a 4-2 nonconference win against Southwest Baptist Friday (Mar. 29) afternoon at Premier Athletic and Tennis Club. The Lakers improve to 8-6 on the season.
GVSU claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Vasileia Griva and
Rachel Sam tallied a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles.
Estefania Hernandez and
Vale Mozas recorded a dominant 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles.
In singles action,
Vasileia Griva claimed a 6-2, 6-1 straight set win at the top singles position.
Neus Ramos tallied a 6-0, 1-0 win after opponent retired at No. 4 singles.
Vale Mozas added a 6-3, 6-1 straight set win at No. 5 singles.
Taylor Barrett dropped a 2-6, 5-7 decision at No. 2 singles.
Rachel Sam dropped a tough 6-4, 3-6, 4-6 three-set decision at No. 3 singles.
The Lakers will close out the week on the road when they face GLIAC rival Ferris State tomorrow morning. First serve is set for 10:00 AM in Big Rapids.
