ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State men's tennis team opened up the weekend with a 4-1 nonconference win against Southwest Baptist Friday (Mar. 29) afternoon at Premier Athletic and Tennis Club. The Lakers improve to 11-4 on the season and improved their win streak to five.
GVSU claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Chimo Minguez and
Jorge Ruiz tallied a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles.
Stephen Claassen and
Lawrence Ivanov posted a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
In singles action,
Victor Lopes claimed a 6-4, 6-3 straight set win at No. 2 singles.
Jorge Ruiz tallied a 6-0, 6-3 straight set win at No. 3 singles.
Chimo Minguez recorded a 6-3, 6-2 straight set win at No. 4 singles. Deny Zamaraiev dropped a 5-7, 5-7 decision at the top singles position.
The Lakers will close out the week on the road when they face GLIAC rival Ferris State tomorrow morning. First serve is set for 10:00 AM in Big Rapids.
