GVSU Baseball Splits At Purdue NW; Winning Game 2 4-1

Lakers host Wayne State Saturday in the home opener at 1 p.m.

Grand Valley State (12-11, 4-2) split a GLIAC doubleheader on Friday afternoon at Purdue Northwest. The Pride won game one 4-1, while the Lakers claimed the nightcap 4-1. GVSU will host #15-ranked Wayne State on Saturday in the home opener at GVSU Baseball Field. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
 
Game 2 - SS Connor Schuman opens the game with a double and Nott follows with an RBI triple to give the Lakers a 1-0 lead. Nott singled in the third with one out and Gulbrandsen came through with an RBI double to up the lead to 2-0. Nott led off the fifth with a single and scored on Dykstra double to right. The Lakers added another run in the fifth when 2B Ayden VanEnkevort doubled with two outs and Schuman followed with an RBI single to center. 
 
Redshirt freshman Owen Avery picked up his second win of the year, yielding 2 hits with eight strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work. Logan Wynalda earned a 3-inning save, 
 
Nott was 3-4 with an RBI triple, two runs scored and reached base four times. Schuman was 2-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, while VanEnkevort was 2-4 with a double and a run scored. 
 
Game 1 – The Lakers opened the game strong with a CF Kyle Nott single, LB Ryan Dykstra single and an RBI double by 3B Jonas Gulbrandsen. Purdue Northwest tied it in the fist and scored three in the bottom of the sixth to claim the win. 
 
Senior Nick Rutkowski was tagged with the loss despite pitching well, yielding four runs on six hits with four strikeouts.
