ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State women's tennis team improved to 2-0 in GLIAC play after defeating Daveport 6-1 Saturday (Mar. 23) evening at Premier Athletic and Tennis Club. The Lakers improved to 7-6 on the season.
GVSU claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Vasileia Griva and
Rachel Sam tallied a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles.
Estefania Hernandez and
Vale Mozas recorded a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles.
Taylor Barrett and
Neus Ramos dropped a 3-6 decision at the top doubles position.
In singles action,
Taylor Barrett claimed a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 three-set win at the top singles position.
Anna Soteras tallied a dominant 6-1, 6-0 straight set at No. 2 singles.
Neus Ramos posted a 6-1, 6-3 straight set win at No. 4 singles.
Estefania Hernandez recorded a 6-2, 6-1 straight set win at No. 5 singles, while
Vale Mozas added a dominant 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.
Rachel Sam dropped a tough 5-7, 6-4, 6-7 three-set decision at No. 3 singles.
The Lakers will return to the courts next weekend when they host Southwest Baptist in a nonconference match on Friday, March 29
th at 12:00 PM at Premier Athletic and Tennis Club. GVSU will then travel to face Ferris State on Saturday, March 30
th at 10:00 AM.
