ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State men's tennis team claimed a 6-1 win against Davenport Saturday (Mar. 23) evening to improve to 2-0 in GLIAC play. The Lakers improved to 10-4 on the season.
GVSU swept doubles play to earn the doubles point.
Sean Miller and
Victor Lopes claimed a 6-4 win at the top doubles position.
Chimo Minguez and
Jorge Ruiz tallied a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles.
Lawrence Ivanov and
Stephen Claassen added a 6-2 win at No. 3 singles.
In singles action,
Denys Zamaraiev claimed a 6-3, 6-2 straight set win at the top singles position.
Sean Miller rallied to a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 three-set win at No. 2 singles. Vicotr Lopes recorded a 6-4, 6-3 straight set win at no. 3 singles.
Chimo Minguez posted a 7-5, 7-6 straight set win at No. 4 singles.
Jorge Ruiz claimed adominant 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles.
Stephen Claassen dropped a tough 4-6, 7-6, 8-10 three-set decision at No. 6 singles.
The Lakers will return to the courts next weekend when they host Southwest Baptist in a nonconference match on Friday, March 29
th at 12:00 PM at Premier Athletic and Tennis Club. GVSU will then travel to face Ferris State on Saturday, March 30
th at 10:00 AM.
