The Grand Valley State Lakers close out their first weekend away in 2024 at the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational and the Jud Logan Light Giver Open hosted by Ashland University. The Lakers had 28 athletes competing today between both meets, including a men's and women's relay squad.

At the Notre Dame Invitational,
Caleb Futter had a rare triple feat, while not only winning the mile invite at Notre Dame as the only Division II athlete but additionally breaking the Grand Valley State school record and setting a new personal-best time of his own. Futter finished with a time of 3:58.65, breaking the previous school record of 4:03.14 set back in 2021. Futter now finds himself written in the Grand Valley State record back, as well as sitting on the top of the USTFCCCA Top 25 Division II list.Â

Scott Spaanstra finished in third place in the men's 800m invite, recording a time of 1:50.46 and potentially putting him in the Top 3 on the USTFCCCA Top 25 DII List. In the men's open mile,
Patrick Lyell placed fourth with a time of 4:07.96, followed by
Cal Yackin in seventh with a new personal-best time of 4:08.90.Â

On the women's side,
Klaudia O'Malley finished fourth in the women's mile invite. O'Malley recorded a time of 4:46.45, likely ranking her within the Top 3 on the Top 25 list. In the open mile,
Maria Mitchell claimed a third-place finish with a time of 4:52.14.Â

Over in Ashland, Ohio, the women's 4x400m relay team had their own triple feat, as they claimed a first-place finish while breaking the Jud Logan Light Over meet record and the Ashland fieldhouse record. This relay squad consisting of
Kate Zang,
Isabel Abdouch,
Alaina Diaz,
Catherine Guckenberger and
Ashtyn Gluck, recorded a time of 3:48.22 breaking Ashland's previous record of 3:50.33.

The men's 4x400m relay squad consisting of
Ben Ireland,
Fallou Gaye,
Myles Rhodes and
Dominik Balenda placed second with a time of 3:11.99. In the men's 60m hurdles,
Joshua Hurt recorded a new personal-best time of 8.08 as he claimed fifth place overall.Â

In the throwing circle,
Mackenzie Bohrer claimed a second-place finish as she threw a distance of 14.75m, followed by
Reette Thorns in fifth with a distance of 14.19m.Â

The pole vault crew finished with three Lakers in the Top 10, led by
James Nutt. Nutt placed fifth as he cleared a height of 4.70m, followed by
Colton Emeott in seventh clearing a height of 4.70m and
Max Rauch in eighth with a height of 4.70m.

The Lakers are back in action at the Kelly Family Sports center this weekend as they host their annual Big Meet on Friday, February 8
th and Saturday, February 9
