ALLENDALE, MICH. – The GVSU women's basketball team heads into their final two games of the regular season this weekend, as they travel up to the Upper Peninsula to take on NMU and MTU. The second-ranked Lakers have won nine straight and look to lock up the GLIAC Title once again.

Thunder Country
With wins over Ferris State and LSSU last weekend, Grand Valley clinched a share of the GLIAC title for the third consecutive season. With a win, or Ferris loss, the Lakers can secure the outright title.
Last weekend, the Lakers used a dominant defensive effort to beat Ferris State 63-38. The Bulldogs only scored 11 points in the second half, as GVSU outscored them by 17 points over the final 30 minutes.
Paige Vanstee scored 17 points off the bench, while
Rylie Bisballe had 12 points and nine rebounds, and
Nicole Kamin had 10 points. The following Saturday, in the battle of the Lakers, GVSU exploded for a 100-48 win. Bisballe led the way with 22 points on 10-13 shooting, with
Ava Scanlon having a career-high 17 points and seven rebounds.
Avery Zeinstra scored 13 points,
Hadley Miller scored 12 points,
Molly Anderson added 10 points and nine assists, and Vanstee contributed 10 points. Over the weekend, the Laker defense forced a combined 50 turnovers, had 29 steals, and blocked eight shots.
The Lakers previously took on the Wildcats and Huskies in the opening weekend of the new year. In the win over NMU, GVSU overcame a halftime deficit, outscoring the Wildcats 33-15 in the second half to win 64-47. Bisballe and Kamin each scored 16 points, and
Abrie Cabana added 10. Against Tech, the Laker defense held the Huskies to just eight first half points to lead 36-8 at the break. From there, they cruised to a 74-30 win.
Ellie Droste had 13 points, while Bisballe and
Megan Crow each had 12.
Northern Michigan comes into the game hot, winning six straight to climb to third in the GLIAC with a 12-4 conference record. The Wildcats have the league's leading scorer in Makaylee Kuhn, who is scoring 17.6 a game, and grabbing a team-high seven rebounds. Jacy Weisbrod is averaging 12.7 points, and just was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week. NMU has the league's third-best defense, allowing just under 60 points a game, holding four teams under 50 points.
Closing out the regular season is a matchup against the Huskies of Michigan Tech. MTU has also been playing well of late, winning four of their past five and now sit in fourth place in the conference. Two Huskies are averaging double-figures, led by Isabella Lenz's 12.9 a game, with Katelyn Meister adding 10.8 a contest. Michigan Tech ranks second in the conference is three-point shooting, making 34.1% from beyond the arc.
