Lakers Clinch Share Of GLIAC Regular Season In Dominating Win Over LSSU

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The GVSU women's basketball team closed out the home portion of their regular season schedule in style, dominating LSSU to the tune of a 100-48 victory. The win clinches the Lakers a share of their third straight GLIAC title. The win also tied head coach Mike Williams as the winningest head coach in Laker history, giving him 233 wins over his time in Allendale.
 
Grand Valley got out to an 8-0 lead, getting two buckets from Rylie Bisballe and Nicole Kamin each. They got the lead up to double-digits following two Ava Scanlon free throws, leading 17-6. The lead kept growing the rest of the quarter, ending at 31-14.
 
After the two teams traded baskets for the first few minutes of the second quarter, GVSU eventually got on a run, pushing the lead over 20 points following a Bisballe layup. Sarah Wight put the Lakers up by 22 with her first points of the day, which is where the lead stood at the half, with Grand Valley up 51-29.
 
An Avery Zeinstra triple brought the lead up to 26 early in the second half. After LSSU responded with a three of their own, GVSU ended the period on a 15-2 run, getting threes from Paige Vanstee and Molly Anderson to double up LSSU 72-36 after 30 minutes of action.
 
The lead eventually got extended up to 40 after Macy Bisballe hit a layup, making it 84-43. Zeinstra hit her second three-pointer of the game later in the quarter, and Macy Bisballe capped it off with a triple of her own, getting the Lakers to the century mark for the third time this season.
 
Rylie Bisballe tallied 22 points on 10-13 shooting, adding four rebounds. Ava Scanlon scored a career-high 16 points on 7-9 shooting, and pulling down seven boards. Avery Zeinstra had 13 points and Hadley Miller tallied 12 points. Paige Vanstee and Molly Anderson each scored 10 points, with Anderson adding a career-high nine assists.

The Lakers finish up the regular season next weekend in the U.P. They take on NMU on Thursday, tipping off at 5:30, then they close with a trip to Michigan Tech on Saturday for a noon tip.
