ROSEMONT, Ill. – The No. 5 Grand Valley State softball swept day two with a pair of shutouts at the Lewis Dome Tournament Saturday (Feb. 24) in Rosemont, Illinois. The Lakers improved to 5-3 after defeating Truman State 9-0 in six innings and William Jewell 6-0.
 
Game One vs Truman State – W, 9-0 (Six Innings)
 
The Lakers got on the board right away in the top of the first inning. 
Hannah Hollister led the game of with a walk and two batters later 
Kelsey Komorous launched a 2-run home run to right field for her first of the season. 
 
GVSU doubled the lead in the second inning to go up 4-0. 
Jasmine Mauk reached on an error and stole second two at bats later. 
Morgan Spicer tripled to right field to score Mauk making it 3-0 Lakers. Spicer would later score off a fielder's choice RBI by 
Carsyn Segorski. Komorous would make it 5-0 in the fourth inning with her third RBI of the game to score 
Megan Koenigshof.
 
GVSU would score three runs in the sixth to go up 9-0 and claim the mercy rule win. Hollister and Segorski led the inning off with back-to-back walks. After Hollister stole third, Komorous notched her fourth RBI of the game to make it 6-0. Two batters later, 
MaryJane Goodman made it 7-0 with her first RBI of the game. Mauk added to the lead with an RBI single to score 
Liberti Fair and Mauk would later score off a William Jewell fielding error.
 
Ashley Platek got the start in the circle and earned the win to improve to 1-2 on the season. Platek tossed all six innings allowing no runs off five hits with one strikeout. Komorous led the Lakers with four RBI's and a home run. Hollister and 
Jenna Ballard each recorded two hits, while Hollister scored two runs. Mauk scored two runs and drove in one run, while Fair notched one hit, scored one run, and walked three times. 
 
Game Two vs William Jewell – W, 6-0
 
The Lakers again got off to a fast start by scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. 
Hannah Hollister led the game off with a single. Two batters later, 
Kelsey Komorous launched a double to score Hollister for her fifth RBI of the day. Later in the inning, 
MaryJane Goodman singled to bring home Komorous.
 
After four scoreless innings from both teams, the Lakers would add to the lead with a three-run sixth inning to go ahead 5-0. 
Nevaeh Ingram led the inning with a single followed by a single from 
Morgan Spicer. Next Batter, 
Eliana Eiland singled to score the pinch runner 
Faith Edwards making it 3-0. Spicer and Eiland would score two batters later off a William Jewell error.
 
The Lakers would make it 6-0 in the seventh inning off an RBI single by Eiland that scored 
Megan Koenigshof. The Lakers would shutout William Jewell, earning their second shutout win of the day.
 
Nevaeh Ingram got the start in the circle and earned the win to improve to 1-0 on the season. Ingram tossed all seven innings allowing no runs off six hits with five strikeouts. Ingram also went 2-4 at the plate in the win. 
 
Six Lakers recorded multiple hits led by Eiland who went 3-4 with two RBI's and one run scored. Komorous went 2-2 at the plate with a double, runs scored, one RBI, and two walks. Spicer and Koenigshof each batted 2-4 with a run scored. Hollister went 2-5 with a run scored, while Goodman added an RBI single. 
 
The Lakers will close out the Lewis Dome Tournament tomorrow (Feb. 25) when they play Bemidji State at 11:00 AM in Rosemont, Illinois.
