Lakers Win Top-10 Battle Against Ferris State

ALLENDALE, MICH. – For the second time in just over a month, the GVSU women's basketball team matchup up with Ferris State in a battle of top-10 teams. GVSU got their revenge from their earlier loss to FSU, shutting down the Bulldog offense in a dominating 63-38 victory. With the win, the Lakers are now 23-2 overall and 14-1 in the league, two games up in the standings.
 
With the game tied at two early on, GVSU went on a 9-0 run, getting back-to-back threes from Paige Vanstee and Molly Anderson, to go up 11-2. Ferris came back and cut it to four at 13-9, but couldn't bring it any close the rest of the quarter, trailing 17-11.
 
Vanstee scored the first six points of the second quarter for the Lakers, as they built their lead up to 23-14. The Bulldogs responded with an 8-4 run to bring it within five, but GVSU answered right back with six consecutive points to go up by 11. Ferris State got it back down to six points just before the half, before a late Nicole Kamin layup got the lead to eight at 35-27 at the break.
 
Ferris State began the second half with two baskets to get their deficit down to four points. From there, the Laker defense shut them down, allowing just seven points the final 18 minutes and 54 seconds of the game. a 13-2 run to end the quarter from GVSU brought their advantage up to 48-33 heading into the final quarter.
 
Lexi Plitzuweit drilled a three-pointer to open the fourth, then Rylie Bisballe made a layup to put GVSU up 53-33. The lead hovered around 20 points for a few minutes, then another Bisballe layup put the Lakers up by 20 for good. Two late threes from Hadley Miller put the icing on the win for the Lakers, capping off the 25-point win.
 
Paige Vanstee had 17 points, four rebounds, and four steals. Rylie Bisballe had 12 points and nine boards, while Nicole Kamin had 10 points and five assists. Hadley Miller contributed nine points and three steals. The Laker defense forced 22 turnovers and held Ferris State to just 34.1% shooting overall and 13.5% from deep.
