GVSU is riding a seven-game winning streak after beating Parkside and Purdue Northwest last weekend. The Lakers overcame a five-point halftime deficit to take down Parkside 76-63.
Rylie Bisballe and
Paige Vanstee each recorded 24 points, while
Nicole Kamin added 11. On Saturday, the Lakers led by four at the half, then stretched the lead all the way up to 13 points early in the fourth quarter before Purdue Northwest started to comeback. The Pride cut it to two, then missed a three-pointer with 12 seconds left, and GVSU held on for the 55-53 win. Bisballe scored 14 points in the win and Kamin contributed 13. The two wins kept GVSU at number two in the WBCA rankings, as they moved to 22-2 overall and 13-1 in GLIAC play.
On Thursday, the Lakers will try to avenge their only conference loss, as Ferris State comes to town. The Bulldogs took down GVSU 71-65 back in January up in Big Rapids. After Grand Valley held a one-point lead after the first quarter, FSU outscored the Lakers by 18 over the second and third quarters to take a commanding lead into the fourth. The Lakers tried mounting a comeback, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit. Kamin had 17 points to lead the Lakers in the loss. In the first game against LSSU, GVSU used a monster second half to pull away for the 69-25 win. They outscored LSSU 46-9 in the final two quarters for the blowout victory.
Abrie Cabana had 12 points and
Rylie Bisballe had 10 to pace GVSU.
Ferris State is one game back of the Lakers in the standings, as they fell to SVSU at home last week. They are now number 10 in the country, 18-3 overall and 12-2 in league play, as their 10-game winning streak was snapped by the Cardinals last week. The Bulldogs bounced back to beat Wayne State on Saturday. FSU has one of the most prolific offenses in the country, with three players averaging double-figures. Chloe Idoni leads the way with 15.5 points per game, followed by Kadyn Blanchard's 13.5 ppg, and Mallory McCartney's 10.6 a contest. Idoni is also pulling down 6.3 rebounds a contest and McCartney's 5.7 assists per game leads the GLIAC.
The Lakers of LSSU are still looking for their first conference win of the year, as they are 0-14 in league play and just 1-22 overall. They have lost 13 straight games, only three of which were within double-figures. Grace Bradford has been the bright spot for LSSU, leading the team with 11.7 points and 10.3 rebounds. She ranks 12
th in the league in scoring and leads the GLIAC in rebounding. Grand Valley is currently on an 18-game winning streak over LSSU, dating back to 2013.
