ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State men's tennis team closed out this week's homestand with a dominant 7-0 victory over Walsh on Friday (Feb. 16) at Premier Athletic and Tennis Club. The Lakers improve to 4-3 on the season and increased their winning streak to three matches.
GVSU claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Chimo Minguez and
Jorge Ruiz tallied a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles.
Stephen Claassen and
Lawrence Ivanov posted a dominant 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles.
Sean Miller and
Victor Lopes dropped a tough 3-6 decision at the doubles position.
On the singles side,
Denys Zamaraiev claimed a 6-2, 7-5 win at the top singles position.
Victor Lopes tallied a 6-4, 0-6, 7-5 three-set win at No. 2 singles.
Jorge Ruiz posted a 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 three-set win at No. 3 singles.
Chimo Minguez recorded a 7-5, 7-5 straight set win at No. 4 singles.
Stephen Claassen claimed a 6-0, 7-5 win at No. 5 singles, while
Ignasi Garros added a 3-6, 7-6, 6-0 three-set win at No. 6 singles.
The Laker men will return to the court next week Friday (Feb. 23) when they host Lewis at 12:00 PM. The Lakers will then host Northwood on Saturday (Feb. 24) at 5:00 PM. Both matches will be played at Premier Athletic and Tennis Club.
