Second Half Comeback Leads GVSU Past Parkside

KENOSHA, WIS. – Trailing at halftime for just the fifth time this season, the second-ranked GVSU women's basketball team outscored Parkside by 18 in the second half to come away with a 76-63 victory. The win moved the Lakers to 21-2 overall and 12-1 in GLIAC play.
 
Parkside hit three three-pointers early on, taking a 9-8 lead almost six minutes into the game. The Rangers continued their hot shooting the rest of the way, hitting over 52% of their shots in the quarter to lead 22-15 after one quarter.
 
Over the first three minutes of the second period, a 9-3 Laker run brought them within one at 25-24. Parkside built the lead back up to five points at 31-26, but Paige Vanstee hit two jumpers and a free throw to tie the game at 31. The Rangers ended the quarter on a 10-5 run to lead 41-36 at halftime.
 
The Lakers began the second half on a 10-2 run to take their first lead since early in the first quarter, up 46-43. They would never give this lead back the rest of the way, leading 55-51 heading into the fourth quarter.
 
A Rylie Bisballe three-pointer put the Lakers up 60-54 early in the final period of play. After Parkside cut it to one, Lexi Plitzuweit made a jumper, then Bisballe buried another from deep to bring the lead back up to six. Vanstee took over after that, scoring nine points in the final three minutes of play, including five game-sealing free throws.
 
Rylie Bisballe tied a career-high with 24 points, hitting four triples, and grabbing five rebounds. Paige Vanstee also scored 24 points, setting a new career-high, shooting a perfect 7-7 from the floor, while pulling down six boards. Nicole Kamin had 11 points and seven rebounds.

The Lakers finish out their out of state trip on Saturday, taking on PNW for their Play4Kay game. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 2:00 PM est.
