Grand Valley State competed at the Cleveland State Open Saturday. The Lakers were one of three non-division I schools to compete in the tournament.
Bradley Mayse (174) and
Caden Jacobs (149) both went 2-2, while
Maddox Simcoe (165),
Nate Mansor (165),
Brayden Bobo (184),
Michael Merritt (157) and
Cayden Strong (157) each finished with a 1-2 mark.
After dropping his opening match to Martin Larkin from Michigan State, Mayse picked up a 12-5 win over Charles Stein (Unatt.) and a fall over Gabriel Thomasson (Unatt.), before falling by pin to Ronald Dimmerling of Cleveland State.
Caden Jacobs fell 8-2 to Logan Cravatas (Ohio), then picked up a 15-0 tech fall over
David Clemons (Unatt.), and a 7-4 win over Bryce Shelton (Air Force). Jocobs then dropped a 10-3 decision to Matt Hart (Indiana).
