INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Grand Valley State men's basketball team fell 88-86 in double overtime at Indianapolis Monday (Dec. 16) night. The Lakers fall to 6-3 on the season.
Kaden Brown led the Lakers with a career high 32 points on 11-23 shooting and 8-15 shooting from behind the arc. Brown scored 20 points in the second half and both overtimes. He also added four rebounds and two assists.
William Dunn scored 18 points on 7-15 shooting from the field and six rebounds.
Charles Turner added 14 points off the bench with five rebounds. Turner shot a perfect 4-4 shooting from three.
GVSU shot 41% from the field and 41% from three. The Lakers outrebounded Indianapolis 43-41 with 13 offensive rebounds. GVSU had 52 points from the bench to the Greyhounds 30 and also outscored Indianapolis 30-28 in the paint.
Indianapolis jumped out to an 8-0 lead three minutes into the game. The Greyhounds knocked down eight three pointers shooting at a 47% clip from behind the arc in the first half.
Kaden Brown led GVSU with 12 first half points shooting 4-8 from the field with two three pointers.
Charles Turner knocked down 3-3 shots from behind the arc for nine first half points.
In the second half, Indianapolis went up by 13 points with just under 10 minutes to play. Thje Greyhounds kept a 12-point lead with under eight minutes, but five straight points from Brown and buckets from Turner and
Trevon Gunter cut the Indianapolis lead to three with four minutes remaining.
Jalen Charity tied the game at 73-73 from the free throw line with eight seconds left. The Lakers got a stop to send the game to overtime.
In the first overtime, Dunn gave GVSU their first lead of the game on the first offensive possession. Indianapolis would take a 79-77 lead with 29 seconds to play.
Mason Docks made a driving layup with 16 seconds to tie the game at 79-79 to force a second overtime.
In the second overtime, Brown knocked down a three to give GVSU an early three-point lead in the period. Indianapolis would take a 87-83 lead with 31 seconds left. Next GVSU possession, Brown knocked down a huge three-pointer to bring GVSU within one. Indianapolis made one of two free throws to give the Lakers a chance for the tie or the win. GVSU would miss the game-winning three as time expired to fall 88-86.
