ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State women's soccer team claimed their 17
th regional championship in program history with a 2-0 win over Drury Sunday (Dec. 1) afternoon. The Lakers improve to 15-1-7 on the season and advance to the elite eight in the NCAA Tournament. 
 
Drury outshot GVSU 14-7, but GVSU had five shots on goal to the Panthers two. Drury had nine corner kick opportunities, while the Lakers had four. 
 
After a scoreless first half, freshman 
Sarah Fromm put the Lakers on the board in the 72
nd minute for her fourth goal of the season and first game-winning goal. 
Taylor Reid made a great run from the right side and placed a beautiful ball for Fromm in the middle of the box. Reid picked up her team leading seventh assist of the season.
 
One minute later, Reid made another great run and placed a great pass for 
Ryann Fetty who kicked it past the goalkeeper to make it 2-0 in the 73
rd minute. Fetty scored her fourth goal of the season, while Reid picked up assist number eight and her second of the match.
 
Cailynn Junk posted her third consecutive shutout and 12
th individual shutout of the season and notching two saves. Junk improved her record in goal to 13-1-7 on the season. Fetty notched two shots with one goal, while playing all 90 minutes of action. 
Taylor Reid had one shot and two assists in 83 minutes played.

Daan Louwerse, and 
Mackenzie Ford played all 90 minutes in the win.
 
GVSU advances to the elite eight and will play the winner of Minnesota State and Central Missouri. The Lakers will be on the road no matter who wins the central region. The elite eight game will be next Saturday (Dec.7). GVSU is 13-3 all-time in the elite eight round.
