Volleyball Claims Senior Day Victory

ALLENDALE, MICH. -  The GVSU women's volleyball team finished off their final home weekend of the regular season with a Senior Day matchup against LSSU. Grand Valley State honored four seniors before the game, then turned in a convincing sweep over their fellow Lakers. The win improved GVSU's record to 23-2 overall and 12-2 in GLIAC play.

Prior to the start of the game, Kaitlyn Bingham, Julia Blaney, Jordyn Gates, and Elena Vaara were honored for their contributions to the Laker volleyball program. This group was a part of  86 wins, a GLIAC regular season championship, and made two trips to the NCAA Regional Tournament.

GVSU came away victorious in the match, winning the sets 25-12, 25-20, and 25-13. GVSU got out to a 12-5 advantage to begin the first set and never let LSSU get any closer than six points the rest of the way, cruising to the set one win. Set two was much closer, as the two teams traded points for over half the set. GVSU finally got a slight 18-13 lead, but Lake Superior State came back and tied the set at 18. Grand Valley State would finish strong though, ending the set on a 7-2 run to go up 2-0 in the match. The third set was also close to start out, with GVSU holding a 13-10 lead. From there, they dominated, going on a 12-2 run to close out the set and the match.
