ALLENDALE, MICH. – The 12
th ranked GVSU volleyball team returned home in emphatic fashion, dominating Saginaw Valley State in straight sets. This was the Lakers' 22
nd victory of the season and the 11
th in GLIAC play.
GVSU took the match, winning the three sets 25-17, 25-11, and 25-12. Set one was tied at eight early on, but the Lakers would go on a 5-0 run to take control at 13-8. The Cardinals clawed back within three multiple times, but could never get any closer, as the Lakers closed on another 5-0 run to put away the first set.
After set two was tied at four apiece, the Lakers started to pull away. They went on two separate 3-0 runs, and then a 5-0 run to lead 17-7. From there, they cruised to the second set win. Set three saw GVSU race out to a 9-1 lead and never looking back, finalizing the match victory in a clean sweep.
Kendall Stover led the team with 10 kills and was tied with
Julia Blaney for a team-high 12 digs.
Brianna Stawski had eight kills and
Meghan O'Sullivan added five.
Jordyn Gates dished out 30 assists in the win.
The Lakers are back in action tomorrow for Senior Day. They will take on LSSU at 2:00, with senior festivities happening before opening serve.
