• #4 Grand Valley State will hit the road for a GLIAC matchup at Michigan Tech Saturday, Nov. 9. Kickoff is set for 12 noon. The Lakers enter the road trip 8-1 overall and 4-1 in GLIAC action, while the Huskies are 6-3 and 3-2 in GLIAC action. You can listen live on the GVSU Football flagship station, WLAV 97, beginning at 10:30 AM.  
 
THE SERIES
Grand Valley State leads the all-time series by a 32-4 margin. The Lakers claimed 44-13 victory over the Huskies a year ago in Allendale, and a 42-7 victory over the Huskies in Houghton in 2022. The Lakers have won eight consecutive in the series and are 27-2 versus MTU since 1985. The Lakers have scored 40 or more points 13 times in the last 20 games and 20 times overall versus the Huskies.

• Last Week - #6 Grand Valley State built a 37-0 halftime lead and led 44-0 early in the third quarter en rout to a 51-28 victory. QB Vinnie Meschi hit WR Kyle Nott with a 76-yard TD pass and LB Damonte McCurdy returned a blocked punt for a TD. RB Syone Usma-Harper scored on a 10-yard TD run, TE Harrison Unger hauled in his first collegiate TD pass and PK Mathew Bacik kicked three first-half field goals. WR Cody Tierney caught a 19-yard TD pass and Derrick Woods closed the scoring with a 7-yard TD run. Meschi was 8-14 for 200 yards and two TDs, while Woods rushed for 56 yards and one TD on nine carries. Nine completions went to nine different players. Luke McLean recorded a team-best 10 tackles.
 • GVSU is 37-20 versus ranked teams since 2009 and 229-39 versus all teams as a ranked team since 2001. 

• Run Offense - The Laker rush offense ranks sixth in the country and leads the GLIAC, rushing for 2,260 yards (250.0 ypg/5.4 ypc) and 25 TDs in eight games.
 
- The GVSU rush defense has yielded 1,099 rushing yards in nine games (122.1 ypg/3.7 ypc).

• GVSU has outscored its opponents 86-5 in the first quarter and 84-41 in the second for a first half combined scoring of 170-46.

Team Game Notes....
• The GVSU defense did not allow Northern Michigan to complete one pass last Saturday (Oct. 12). It marked the first time in Laker football history that an opponent did not complete a pass. 

• GVSU rushed for five touchdowns versus Northern Michigan.

• The GVSU defense recorded eight QB sacks (-43) and 15 tackles for loss (-55) vs. West Florida. The eight QB sacks ranks third in a single game. 

• The 58 points scored tied the program record for points scored in a season-opening game (58-16 at St. Joseph's College in 1990) and the 58-point margin broke the previous record of 56 (56-0 vs. Minnesota Crookston in 2001) for margin of victory in a season-opening game.

• Grand Valley State shutout Central State in the season-opening game (58-0), marking the first time in Laker football history that GVSU has shutout opponents in back-to-back games regular season games at Lubbers Stadium (Davenport 30-0, 2023). 
 
• GVSU rushed for 546 yards in the season-opening game, three yards shy of the single-game, school record (549/1974 Findlay).

• The Lakers rushed for seven touchdowns vs. Central State, the most since rushing for seven vs. Notre Dame College in 2012.  

• Three running backs eclipsed the 100-yard rushing mark in the same game (Central State) for the first time in school history. The previous record was two that reached the 100-yard rushing mark in 2014 (Chris Robinson 126/Terrel Dorsey 109) vs. Tiffin.

• The Laker defense limited Central State to 60 rushing yards, 35 passing yards, 95 total yards and six first downs. 

• GVSU recorded 12 TFL and two QB sacks vs. Central State. 

• GVSU tallied 15.0 TFL and 8.0 QB sacks vs. West Florida. The 8.0 QB sacks ranks third all-time. 

Individual Game Notes...
GLIAC Honors
• Sophomore QB Vinnie Meschi was named the GLIAC Player of the Week in his first collegiate start. Meschi completed 8-of-14 passes for 200 yards and two TDs in first half. 

• Junior LB Anthony Cardamone was named the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week following his 11 tackle, 2.0 TFL and 1.0 QB sack outing at Saginaw Valley State. 

• Freshman punter Evan Sundermann was named the GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance at SVSU. Sundermann averaged 45.6 ypg, dropped two at the Cardinal 1 yard line, two more inside the 20 with a long of 58 yards. 

 • Sophomore WR Kellen Reed was named the GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week after returning the opening kickoff 92 for a TD vs. Northern Michigan. Reed added another KO return for a TD that was called back due to a penalty and he was credidted with 32 yards. 

• Sophomore running back Khalil Eichelberger was named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week after rushing for 129 yards and two TDs on 15 carries vs. #20 West Florida.

• Junior punter Trace Hrgich was named the GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance at CSU-Pueblo. Hrgich averaged 46.5 yards on eight punts, dropping four inside the 20 yard line and two inside the 10 yard line. Hrgich ranks eighth in the country.

• GVSU sophomore defensive lineman Josh Schell set a record record for pass deflections in a game with four vs. Wayne State. 

• Senior WR Kyle Nott is one of two Lakers all-time (Brent Lesniak 92 run/90 reception) with  with a TD run (87) and TD reception (76) that covered 76 yards or more in a career.



• RS Freshman PK Mathew Bacik converted a career-long and the second-longest field goal in Laker football history, 53-yard field goal vs. West Florida. 

• Sophomore running back Khalil Eichelberger rushed for 119 yards and two TDs on 18 carries vs. Central State (9/5).

• RS freshman running back Kenneth Jones tallied a career-high 116 rushing yards and one TD on 11 carries vs. Central State (9/5).

• Sophomore running back Derrick Woods rushed for a career-high 109 yards and two TDs on four carries vs. Central State (9/5). 

• RS freshman Paschal Jolman toted the ball four times for a career-high 84 yards and a TD vs. Central State (9/5). 

• Place kicker Mathew Bacik set a freshman record with his 46 yard field goal, a freshman record. Bacik was 7-for-8 in PATs vs. Central State (9/5).
